There are twenty-two Conservation Areas in Hackney. The local authority has established five different 'Advisory Committees' to comment on planning applications that effect the character or appearance of these areas, which cover some of the finest stretches of townscape in the borough. These committees meet about once a month, and they comment on all aspects of developments within Conservation Areas, including open spaces, advertisements, and changes of use.
If you know of any proposed or recent development that has affected the quality of a Conservation Area,(including sites on the edge of Conservation Areas), then get in touch with the Committee's Chair or Secretary. If you feel strongly about improving the quality of your environment, and affecting the way your local area will look in the future, then please join a Committee and get involved. No previous experience is necessary, and training can be provided.
