Drawing on the skills of local people to create a local list is one the best ways to engage the local community in conservation and heritage.

The Love Local Landmarks Tool Kit is designed to help councils, heritage groups, amenity societies and other local groups who wish to undertake similar projects using the time and skills of local volunteers. The toolkit contains tips on: recruiting, training and managing volunteers; sifting and formal adoption of buildings; and recording data onto the local historic environment record. The appendix includes a sample set of sift criteria, a volunteer job description and an example of a list entry.
