Clapton CAAC July 2021

Planning Applications for Clapton CAAC meeting for 15 July 2021

2021/1889 Groundwork East London, Office First Floor, 6 - 8 Lower Clapton Road, E5 0PD Internal alterations at first floor level comprising erection of partition walls and upgrading plumbing services Listed Building Consent (Danny Huber)

CAAC has no comment on this application.

2021/1890 Groundwork East London, Office First Floor, 6 - 8 Lower Clapton Road, E5 0PD Change of use of first floor from office (E(c)(ii) Use Class) tattoo and laser removal/skin rejuvenation facility (Sui Generis Use Class) Full Planning Permission (Danny Huber)

CAAC has no comment on this application.

2021/1150 152 - 156 Lower Clapton Road, E5 0QJ Upgrade to existing telecommunications equipment, comprising installation of antennas, posts and ancillary equipment Full Planning Permission (Danny Huber)

To say that this enhances the CA is questionable. Presently, only one of the two antennae are noticeable when travelling down Lower Clapton Road. The proposal intends to place the second antenna more centrally making it a focal point when viewed from the street. This is all the more the case since the proposed antennae are taller than the current ones. The applicant claims that the alternative of siting a free-standing mast (as on Upper Clapton Road, for example) would be a less-good solution. We believe that this might make for a less-intrusive answer for the provision of 5G.

2021/1414 16 Alconbury Road, E5 8RH Replacement of windows, doors, soffits and fascias Full Planning Permission (Danny Huber)

There were two similar applications by Newlon Housing Trust in June. We repeat our comments from that month: 'This is one in a programme Newlon Housing Trust is undertaking - two of which are in this month's listing. The Trust is submitting a standard pattern regardless of whether the subject house is in a coonservation area or not. UPVC windows and doors are contrary to policy and should be refused. Soffits on the street are mainly timber. The colour scheme should be sensitive to the area and not left a free choice of the various occupants.' The June's applications are 2021/1521 and 2021/1672

2021/2035 38 Reighton Road, E5 8SG Erection of a single storey ground floor rear extension and associated alterations to rear elevations. Householder Planning (Alix Hauser)

CAAC has no comment on this application.

2021/2011 Flat 3, 66 Reighton Road, E5 8SG Proposed loft conversion with front and rear mansard roof, floor plan redesign and all associated works. Full Planning Permission (Erin Glancy)

The drawing for this application are inadequate. We are unable to make detailed comments.

2021/1850 Flat 2, 71 Reighton Road, E5 8SQ Installation of replacement windows. Full Planning Permission (James Clark)

We are puzzled by the term 'sash imitation windows' particularly when further specified as 'timber frames' in soft wood with hardwood sills. CAAC has no objection.

2021/1941 Bus Shelter Between 352 And 354 Mare Street, E8 1HR Installation of public artwork sculptures. Full Planning Permission (Louise Prew)

The platform is a place more useful for community activity and trading - an outdoor shopping area in the pedestrianised Narrow Way. This area is currently well-used for market stalls. We fear the art objects may be open to vandalism and graffiti and might be better placed where they can be supervised. A possible alternative site would be in front of the Town Hall on Mare Street.

2021/1936 368 Mare Street, E8 1HR The refurbishment of the existing roof and existing parapets and installation of an access hatch and folding handrails. [Retrospective] Full Planning Permission (Gerard Livett)

CAAC has no comment on this application.

2021/1917 Natwest, 20 Amhurst Road, E8 1JW Installation of conservation styled rooflights, replacement of existing windows at second and third floor, extension of existing steel stair platform, creation of 2no. inset terraces at second and third floor level Full Planning Permission (Claire Moore)

This is a building that CAAC recommended in March 2018 to be locally listed - though we have had no response. The proposed alterations protect a distinctive building and are a great improvement on the refused earlier application.

2021/2050 4 Isabella Road, E9 6DX Proposal for the reconstruction of the rear lean-to extension. Householder Planning (James Clark)

No objection: a good architecutral solution

2021/1613 Flat 7, Stamford Mansions Stamford Grove East, N16 6LT Installation of new boiler flue, plume kit and cage Listed Building Consent (Gerard Livett)

The photographs do not give the context of the flue and associated works in relation to the building as a whole. There are no drawings. The flue is directly beside a window and an air grille which makes its siting questionable on health grounds.

2021/1897 86 Osbaldeston Road, N16 6NL Variation to planning permission 2018/0698 granted for the Erection of a rear dormer extension and other external associated alterations. Variations include the modification of condition 2 to change the approved roof extension in positioning, size and design. Removal/Variation of Condition(s) (James Clark)

CAAC has no comment on this application.

2021/2030 54 Osbaldeston Road, N16 7DR Erection of side and rear dormer window; insertion of two rooflights in front roofslope Householder Planning (Gerard Livett)

This is a dog's breakfast of a proposal with unrelated blocks crammed together with no attempt at integration or aesthetics either in the front or rear elevations. The extension to the side combines a vertical surface with what appears to be a residual section of the current roof slope. As a rooftop mass it is completely unsympathetic to the host building. Further, it ignores the Residential Extensions Guidelines by not bringing the proposed loft extension below the ridge line and in from the party wall. Above the ridge line there is both a skylight and a sukkot - further distrupting its ridge line and the ridges of neighbouring houses.

2021/2041 60 Durlston Road, E5 8RR Erection of rear roof extensions over main roof slope and the rear outrigger, and insertion of rooflights to front roof slope and rear roof slope of rear outrigger Full Planning Permission (Kim Aukett)

CAAC has no comment on this application.
