2019/1832 and 2019/1847 4 Albion Square E8 4ES Erection of a single storey lower ground floor rear extension; conversion of existing side infill extension from garage to a bedroom; landscaping to include new side/rear external stair and works to party wall; Elevation alterations to include general repair/upgrade of walls and windows and re-building of the roof. No objection to the rear extension. We are however concerned that the garage conversion is inappropriate, with a door from a bedroom letting directly out into the front parking space. We feel that it is a pity that an opportunity is being missed to improve the front elevation of the converted garage. There is also no indication as to what is to happen to the front railings running from house to perimeter fence, which appear to have been removed in the proposed plan. If the railings are original, we would object to their removal.


2019/1532 Duke Of Wellington 119 Balls Pond Road N1 4BL Installation of 2x air conditioning units, 1x condensing unit and 1x heat extract flue above single storey rear element. (Nick Bovaird 0208 356 8291)

No objection, but we would like assurance that, should the pub decide in future to provide other types of food, the system will deal also with those odours.

We strongly object to this application, which contravenes one of the original intentions of the De Beauvoir Article 4 Direction, which was to prevent the paving over of front gardens. Although 108 and 112 have offstreet parking, this cannot be used to set a precedent as this came into being before the date of the Article 4 Direction.

We are concerned that if the proposed rear extension will require new foundations to be dug, this could badly impact the root area of the neighbouring tree. Otherwise we have no objection.


2019/1511 115B De Beauvoir Road N1 4DL Demolition of existing conservatory and erection of single storey rear extension at lower ground floor level. Installation of 2 rooflights to rear roof (Micheal Garvey 020 8356 8053)

We are concerned about the fully glazed proposed roof of the extension, as it could create light pollution for the adjoining buildings.


2019/1508 66-68 Kingsland Road E2 8DP Replacement shopfront at ground floor level. (Louise Smith 0208 356 8061)

We strongly object to the loss of the fenestration of this shop frontage, which is very much of a piece with the upper parts of this characterful building. We feel that it would be entirely possible to insert a second door which keeps the same glazing arrangement.

2019/1698 99 Kingsland Road E2 8AG Erection of a one storey roof extension to provide an additional flat (1 x 3-bedroom penthouse flat) and internal alterations. (Micheal Garvey 020 8356 8053)

We object to this application, which would create an awkward imbalance between the original 3 storey building, with its new additions to the rear and at 4th floor level, and the proposed extra floor. The resulting 5 storey building will also unattractively dominate its smaller neighbours.

2019/1488 and 2019/1494 568 Kingsland Road E8 4AH Retention of five ventilation ducts on the northern elevation of the building (Retrospective) (Louise Prew 020 8356 8613)

We are concerned that these vents are in an inappropriate area, being in the public realm, and affecting this space. If this application is allowed, the wall should be redecorated, and the plants should be monitored to see that they are not being harmed by the warm air being vented out.



2019/1817 14 Northchurch Terrace N1 4EG Replacement of first floor window with French door to form a roof terrace with railings at first floor level and increase height of parapet by 730mm (Micheal Garvey 020 8356 8053)

We strongly object to this application affecting a fine Locally Listed building, which will cause loss of original fabric, and will be clearly visible along De Beauvoir Road. There will also be a considerable issue of overlooking. The De Beauvoir Design Guide does not in fact support this sort of development.(See Section 6: Roof Terraces)


2019/1650 126 Southgate Road N1 3HX Erection of a single storey ground floor rear extension and a single storey rear outbuilding, insertion of rooflights to side extension, build-up of exterior wall, interior alterations and replacement of non-original windows to the front and rear elevations (Danny Huber 020 8356 1453)

We object to the use of the aluminium cladding on the proposed rear extension which we feel is inappropriate. We would prefer the new extension to be rendered, in order to reduce the variation in finishes on the house.

We very strongly object as a whole to this excessively long (6m), tall, architecturally incoherent and quite inappropriate proposal.
