2022/1399 Front Building, 148 - 150 Curtain Road, EC2A 3AT Alterations to the ground-floor shopfront. Full Planning Permission (Monika Vistartaite)

The CAAC OBEJCTS to these proposals which do not follow the Shop Front Design Guide and would result in the loss of historic features which contribute to the character of the building and it role in Curtain Road street scene. The proposals should seek to follow the recent (but traditional) shopfronts that have been successfully integrated into other buildings along Curtain Road whilst also retaining important features like the existing brick piers

2022/1411 Front Building, 148 - 150 Curtain Road, EC2A 3AT Replacement of the existing steel front gates to timber gates with inset door.

2022/1567 The Tramshed, 32 Rivington Street, EC2A 3LX Internal refurbishments to a Grade II Listed Building, including the erection of additional plant, replacement and repair of windows, and associated works for the use as a furniture showroom (Class E). Full Planning Permission (Catherine Nichol)

The CAAC notes that most of the proposed works are internal and relate to the re-purposing of the building for new uses. The works undertaken for the previous application were of good quality and also provided appropriate secondary glazing to protect local amenity whilst also being sensitive to the historic interest of the building. We would, therefore, encourage LBH to make sure that the internal work safeguard the long-term future of the building – for example, by maintaining the important works undertaken as part of the previous conversion to ensure the long term of the building is safeguarded.

2022/1500 Citysprint Ltd, 58 - 62 Scrutton Street, EC2A 4XP Replacement of windows and doors to street elevations; replacement of gates on Scrutton Street; alteration to access arrangement; installation of roof terrace; erection of new lift overrun; and other associated elevational and courtyard alterations. Full Planning Permission (Alix Hauser)

No objection – although the CAAC notes that, whilst not part of the Victorian Shoreditch context, the existing building is one of the final remaining examples of the post-war flatted factory type buildings built by the LCC as part of the later industrial function of the area. As such we welcome the retention of the building and encourage the LPA and applicant to develop a detailed scheme for the façade that respects the character of the existing building.

No objection on CA grounds – but the CAAC note that original PP was based on re-provision of a public house to replace the historic use at the site so it is disappointing to now see that element of the scheme lost as this was a reason for granting the original permission
